For families
The questions people actually ring us to ask
Choosing a care home for someone you love is a significant and often emotional decision. Here is what we would tell you on the phone.
- Can I visit whenever I like?
- Yes. Families are an important part of life at Stoneacre Lodge, and we encourage regular visits and involvement. You do not need to book, though a call ahead means we can make sure your relative is not in the middle of something they are enjoying.
- Will the same staff be looking after Mum?
- As far as we possibly can, yes. Our manager has been at the home for more than 25 years and a good proportion of the staff have spent a significant number of years here. Continuity is the single thing that matters most in dementia care, and it is the thing we protect hardest.
- What if her needs change?
- Care plans are reviewed as things change, and we will always tell you straight if the home can no longer meet someone's needs. You will hear it from us first, not from a review meeting.
- Can she bring her own things?
- Please do. Each bedroom is individually characterised, and residents are encouraged to bring their own memorabilia and cherished belongings with which to decorate the room. Familiar objects do real work for someone living with dementia.
- How do I know she'll have something to do?
- The home employs a dedicated activities co-ordinator, and sessions are designed to stimulate and engage residents who want to take part. There are also two communal touch-screen computers and free Wi-Fi in bedrooms, so video calls with family are straightforward.
- Can we have a meal with her?
- Yes — just let the kitchen know. A resident can eat in the dining room or in the privacy of their own room, and all dietary needs are catered for.
What a family told us
“My mum lived here for nine years and received excellent care. The staff love and care of the residents beyond just a job. We cannot thank them enough.”
